Organized Groups

Theatrical tradition in the village.

The establishment of the “Proodos” Study Group in 1905 marked the beginning of the people of Asgata being involved with the theatre. Up until the 1960s the association put on several plays, but the periods between 1934 until 1940 and 1943 until 1948 were the ones during which they put on the most plays. In fact, the performances were not limited to our village only, but on several occasions these were presented in other communities as well.

As of 2014, the Community Council has revived our community’s theatrical performances and each year a new play is presented.

The Association of Expatriates of Asgata was established in May 1988. The initiative for the establishment of the Association was taken by the president of the community at the time, Mr. Polydoros Anastasiou, who mobilized all the expatriates of the community. During the first years after its establishment, the association participated in all the events taking place at the village, including the highly successful dancing party in which every citizen of Asgata participated.

Moreover, the association took the initiative of beautifying the square and the library of the community, which today constitute the pride of the village, while it also participated in tree planting events, cleaning campaigns and exhibitions. Finally, the Association of Expatriates financially contributed to the purchasing of equipment to be used by the primary school, as well as in the construction of a monument dedicated to the hero of the community, Georgios Katsari.
